Wrexham Is Looking Like One Of The Best Sports Investments In History Now That Their Financials Are Public

I don't like Ryan Reynolds. I will start there. Everything he says feels contrived. Like it has been focus-grouped and workshopped before he actually says a sentence. I find it offputting. I don't particularly like any of his movies with the exception of "Definitely Maybe" which is delightful and ranked high in my guilty pleasure movies. I couldn't really keep with with that Blake Lively story where she tried to ruin that other actor's life, but I assume that the other dude was in the right the entire time.

Having said all of that...this is an unreal success story. An initial investment of $2.5M has turned into a $100M business.

Match day revenue: $6M

Sponsorships: over $17M

Other: $14M

Wrexham is making 3x what any of their peers are making in League 1. Which is why they're on track to be promoted again for the third time in three years. Thanks to the TV show and their famous owners, Wrexham gets sponsors like TikTok, United Airlines, etc. Wycombe, another team in their league, is sponsored by a local door and window construction company. Imagine Luna carpet sponsoring the Cubs. That's the equivalent.

Now Wrexham will be moving up to the Championship. Just one tier below the Premier League. With that promotion comes another influx of cash. It's gotten to the point where Reynolds and Mac can probably pay themselves back the $11M in loans they've given to the club and not miss a beat.

I'd love to dismiss Reynolds and give all the credit to someone else or the TV show, but Sunderland had their netflix show and they've been out of the premier league for over a decade. JJ Watt is the face of Burnley. Tom Brady is with Birmingham. They're not the commercial success at this point that Wrexham is so that playdough face idiot must be just doing something different and better.

The guy just makes money hand over fist. Mint mobile. That aviation gin. Deadpool and now Wrexham. Credit where it's due. I hope his wife loses that lawsuit.
