Counterpoint: Leave Belichick and His Girlfriend Alone!

By now you've no doubt seen the interview. Witnessed the reactions to it, from Dante:

To Dave:

To the football intelligentsia:

And to me, all the negativity serves as a reminder of one thing that has been true since the dawn of time.

People simply do not understand romantic love.

From the time days when the Ancient Greeks were philosophizing about what they called Eros (where we get words like "erotic"), it's been an unfathomable mystery. Incomprehensible to our feeble human brains. But the one constant throughout the ages is that beautiful romances like the one Belichick and Jordon Hudson share have been scorned. Derided. Dismissed as some kind of a mistake. Like they don't belong together because … reasons.

They said it about Samson and Delilah. Marc Antony and Cleopatra. Romeo and Juliet. Hugh Hefner and the cast of Girls Next Door. Woody Allen and his stepdaughter. Jamie and Cersei Lannister, just because they were brother and sister and gave birth to a monster.

Any time two (or more) tender hearts find a connection in this wicked world, there's somebody somewhere who has a problem with it. That's why at weddings they've always done that "If anyone has an objection" thing. Well when it comes to these two crazy, star-crossed lovers, I'm not playing that game. You can forever hold your peace walkin', Mister. This eight time Super Bowl champion and this National Cheerleading champion don't need your blessing. They've got each other's. And the approval of hopeless romantics like me.

After all, what was Jordon doing here anyway? Standing by her man like Tammy Wynette. Supporting him. Being by his side. Which is to say, slightly off to one side, off-camera. But like Belichick has always taught his players and coaches, she was staying laser focused on the job at hand, which is promoting his book. If anything, her willingness to shut down the line of questioning - which was straight up the way Belichick handled off-topic questions at a million press conferences - helped book sales by going viral. This moment is driving engagement, putting eyeballs on screens, and selling more copies.

Jordon Hudson is Belichick's rock. His muse. His soulmate. His assistant on the field and off at UNC. And now his literary agent. If you have an issue, here's a tissue:
