'It's A Cultural Revival' - We're Getting A Reboot Of American Gladiators, This Time Hosted By The Miz And It Will Have The Eliminator
[Source] - The WWE and Real World alum will host the competition featuring an All-Star cast of Gladiators for the modern era. The competition will feature brand new events, as well as incorporate some classics from the original series like Gauntlet, Hang Tough, and The Eliminator.
Poznick noted that the revival of American Gladiators “isn’t just a comeback, it’s a cultural revival,” adding, “Fans, old and new, are going to love this evolution in sports entertainment.
The featured Gladiators on the upcoming series will range from professional bodybuilders, former D1 athletes, pro crossfit champions and pro fitness trainers from around the globe all ecstatic to put their abilities to the test.
I know this isn't the first reboot, but I'm a sucker for nostalgia. There were very things as important on TV than American Gladiators in the 90s. It was a show that you had to watch, if you didn't watch you were basically a nerd. It had everything from the events to the Gladiator lore to the Eliminator, still one of the truly elite finals to competition that we've ever seen:
I don't want any new events. That's the one thing this version needs to understand. We don't need anything new, we want the 90s American Gladiators. We want the show that was on with guys like Nitro and Malibu and all the sweet names we knew. You don't need to reinvent challenges. Just bring back Assault, Joust, Breakthrough and Conquer, The Wall, Swingshot. Hell, bring back the original American Gladiators game for Nintendo (one of my top-5 all-time games). That game was awesome, even if The Wall was damn near impossible to beat.
I do love that The Miz is hosting this. This is a good pick. Still blows my mind that the guy from Real World turned into a WWE Hall of Famer and all over TV. He figured it out. But the key is who else will join him on the call, which should be a no-brainer.
You need a fullback on the call. You need someone gritty to join The Miz. It would only be fitting to bring back any notable fullback for this. Mike Alstott has to be free, call him up and have him take the Larry Csonka role. I say this all the time with these reboots and everything else. Just be interesting and I'm going to watch. Nostalgia always plays and if you can just keep it somewhat interesting I will watch every episode.
