'Quail Hollow Is Like A Kardashian. Modern, Beautiful and Well-Kept. But It Lacks A Soul Or Character' - Hunter Mahan Sounds Fired Up For The PGA Championship
[Source] - So why is the divide so stark? What is it about a major coming to Quail Hollow that elicits such a visceral reaction? The answer is a bit like explaining reality television’s appeal.
“I guess I would say Quail Hollow is like a Kardashian,” six-time PGA Tour winner Hunter Mahan said. “It’s very modern, beautiful and well-kept. But it lacks a soul or character.”
Good Lord, Hunter. How long do you think he had this comparison locked and loaded? You don't just think of this on the fly and give it in an interview. He had to have thought of this a year ago and just waited until PGA Championship week to drop the Kardashian line. I'd expect the comparison like this to come from a man with a hit song:
I know people are torn about Quail Hollow. It should deliver awesome television, it has the Green Mile to close, it has holes that should give us an exciting finish. But like it's been said by the golfers, a lot of Quail Hollow is hitting to the same spot and who can get their second shot closer. There's not a lot of variety in shot shapes like we saw last week at Philadelphia Cricket Club. Look, the fact is if you get a close major, people don't care as much about the course. If someone runs away with it, everyone will talk about the course.
I won't lump all the Kardashians in here though, since at least two have great character. They know how to win over a fanbase.

You slap on a Knicks hat and cheer, you won me over for the time being. I'm a simple man. But, back to Quail Hollow, I do think a regular PGA Tour stops shouldn't host majors. I like when it's a different spots we don't get to see often. Loved when it was at Kiawah. Mix it up a little more, so we can see some of these different courses. All I know is Hunter Mahan knows how to compare things. Need a full list of PGA Tour stops and celebrity comparisons.
