Jordon Hudson Reportedly Turned Down 'Dancing With the Stars' in Order to Focus on UNC Football

A few days ago, Michelle Obama did an interview with Beyonce's mom Tina Knowles (I am now halfway through the most feminine opening sentence of my long and legendary career), where among other things they apparently discussed was how much a woman sacrifices her independence when she gets married. Which is sort of ironic coming from a former First Lady of these United States. But I'm in no position to criticize her for it since she's probably the most popular public figure in America and her book sold more copies than any of mine, by an order of magnitude. (Help close the gap. Father's Day will be here before you know it. And dad needs some laughs, not another travel mug.) Besides, she has me at a disadvantage since I've never been a married woman and am still waiting for a good man to come along and sweep me off my feet.

Anyhoo, whether their premise is true or not, there are times in any committed relationship where you have to give of yourself. To sometimes turn away from some thing that would benefit you, but be to the detriment of that special union you've formed. By way of example, look no further than 50% of the women at an AC/DC show or 100% of men drinking Pumpkin latte at an apple orchard in Vermont on an NFL Sunday. That look in their eyes of praying for the sweet release of death is this sacrifice being made.

But in the right kind of relationship, you make that sacrifice willingly. Gracefully. With gratitude. It is your gift to your significant other, but it's also a gift you give to yourself because it strengthens what the two of you have. It's a reminder that the only true happiness comes from finding your soulmate. And there's no greater demonstration than Jordon Hudson giving up her chance to bring her talents to prime time network TV because Bill Belichick needs her:

Source - Bill Belichick's girlfriend Jordon Hudson has been approached to take part in the next season of Dancing With The Stars, DailyMail.com can reveal. …

ABC are currently in the process of signing up celebs for the thirty-fourth season of the show, and sources close to Hudson have revealed that she has had the call - but is unlikely to take part.

'She has been asked to be a part of the next season of Dancing with the Stars,' a source told DailyMail.com.

'She likely will decline as it will be in the fall, the same time Bill will be coaching and she wants to be there for him at UNC.

If you've ever wondered how best to explain true love, this is it. Jordon said it better than any poet, author or songwriter ever could. What 24 year old with her poise, grace and beauty wouldn't jump at the chance to Tango and Waltz across America's screens every week? What Bridgewater State grad with a National Cheerleading Championship ring wouldn't love to compete once again? This time for the storied Mirror Ball Trophy. This would be an opportunity to launch her career into orbit. To become a household name.

But the fame isn't what she's after. All she wants is to be there for UNC football. And the head coach in whose eyes she's found real fulfillment. When the Tar Heels succeed, Belichick succeeds, and by extension, she succeeds. More than all the DWTS winners in all the world.

Now, a cynic might point out that the administration at UNC would love to see her spend a few weeks in Hollywood training, rehearsing, taping, and not helping  the program:

Sorry. If you're looking for that kind of derisive skepticism, you've come to the wrong blog, Hoss. I believe in these two crazy, star-crossed kids. All this has done is make me believe in their romance even more than I have. Even though I'll miss seeing her climbing that DWTS ladder and wowing Bruno Tonioli on ABC all next fall, my heart is full at seeing how she's so willingly put aside every woman's dream to support her man.

The good news is, this might not be the end of Hudson's career in TV. Just the beginning. From the same article:

'Whatever Jordon would like to get into, in front or behind the cameras, she wants to do some shows in the hosting realm. She's like to do a show like 1st Look if she had the chance.'

Fantastic. She'll revolutionize basic cable sports talk, whenever it happens. But they will just have to wait. Her first priority is making football great on Chapel Hill. Buy a shirt:
