An Ohio Lawmaker Has Proposed A Bill To Prevent Networks From Making Ohio State Play Big Games At Noon (Except Michigan)
Alright let's cut the bullshit I see spewing around the internet regarding this story, as I want to be very clear with a few things here:
1. This is a publicity stunt that makes the great state of Ohio look bad. This is not happening. It's not possible. It's just like the "make it a felony to plant a flag in Ohio Stadium" bill that the fucking clown from Toledo introduced on the heels of the Buckeyes getting embarrassed by Michigan. It won't happen. It can't happen. And it makes us look soft.
BUT.....
#2: Ohio State needs to stop getting assigned the lunchtime slot for their biggest games. It's an epidemic. Fox gets to select who they want on Big Noon Kickoff, and since Ohio State is a cash cow and the only team worth a damn in the entire conference, they get picked every single time. Look at this list of noon games since 2019:
Last year we played not one but two Top 5 matchups before the West Coast even finished their breakfast, plus the Michigan game. And don't get me wrong, I'm not against noon games. In fact, I do like them. So to the crowd that cries whenever I bring this problem up, citing that noon games are good, don't get it twisted. I'm in on playing from noon from time to time. The Michigan game belongs at noon. But we deserve SOME big games to be in the evening as well. I mean, the idea that Texas is coming to Columbus for Week 1 and kicking off at any time other than primetime is disgusting. But the following year, we'll head to Austin and be their biggest night game in program history.
Bottom line: fuck this lawmaker looking for clicks. But yes, let's address the problem of always having to play at noon. It looks like Ohio State's only night home game this entire season will be vs. Grambling on Big Ten Network....
