"The Next Couple Of Days Is Gonna Be A Lot Of Beer Probably" - Nikola Jokic Gave The Perfect Answer To How He Plans To Spend His Offseason

One hard truth about life is there are always going to be double standards. You'll find them in pretty much every aspect of life. It could be dating, school, work, and for the sake of this blog, sports.
Take Nikola Jokic for example. Arguably the best player in the world, a generational talent who when it's all said and done will go down as one of the best to ever do it. Coming off another tough Game 7 loss for the second time in two seasons, he was asked postgame what he had in store for the offseason. His answer? The perfect Jokic response
When it comes to Jokic's offseason, there are two things you can bank on. First, he's going to hang out with his horses. Once basketball is over, it's time to return to his one true love,e and my guess is that at this point, he's already on the plane back to Serbia. Second, he's going to party his face off. We see it every offseason to the point where it would almost be a shock if he didn't
It's part of what makes him such a legend. In a league where you have world-class athletes to spend their offseasons getting into the best shape possible, Jokic just does whatever he wants until it's time to show up for training camp, and then immediately puts up a historic season like it was nothing
It's sort of like how James Harden powers up by going to strip clubs as opposed to working out. Some players are just built different.
But here's where the double standard angle comes into play. Imagine if Luka Doncic said that same exact quote after the Lakers got bounced in the first round? Would the reaction be anything like what we're seeing with Jokic where everyone is sort of laughing about it and thinking it's a classic hilarious Jokic moment?
No chance in hell!
I mean, his previous franchise literally traded him and immediately slandered the hell out of him for being fat and out of shape because he loves drinking beer and smoking hookah. Let's also not forget what happened after the Mavs punched their ticket to the Finals last season
The difference, of course, and why this double standard exists and is allowed, is because Nikola Jokic is a champion. Not only is be the BITW, but he has the hardware whether you want to go with his multiple MVPs or his Larry O'Brien trophy. When you do all that, you're allowed to make beer jokes and then live up to them by drinking your face off in the offseason. If Luka was winning MVPs and titles, nobody would give a shit about his love of beer and hookah. Instead, those things contributed to him being a hunted seal on the court and his teams coming up short. In the world of sports, you don't do both. You can't not give a shit about being in shape and be open about how much you love beer in the offseason if you don't win. If you win, suddenly those jokes are endearing.

So while it's a bummer that we'll no longer be able to watch Jokic play playoff basketball, I am excited for all the content that is sure to come from his offseason when it comes to him getting drunk as hell wandering around the streets of Serbia as a living legend. If his horse wins another race my guess is we'll get plenty of footage of Jokic popping that top off and getting hammered, which is easily one of the best parts of the offseason.
