The Edmonton Oilers End Up Plaxico Burress'ing Themselves In Game 1 Of The WCF

Somebody needs to check in on the Edmonton Oilers. You know when people start to show signs of self-destructive behavior, something is clearly going on. When things are going so well in their life that they feel the need to fuck it up themselves because they don't think they deserve to have good things. Everything is going perfect, so they decide to go full Plaxico and shoot themselves in the dick because it's only a matter of time before it all goes to shit anyway.

Here they are in game 1 of the Western Conference Final, and they're taking a 3-1 lead into the 3rd period. Draisaitl has 3 points on the night with a goal and 2 assists. McDavid has 2 assists. You have two of the best players in the world on your team, and they have a combined 5 points on the night. All you have to do is just ride out those final 20 minutes and not fuck things up for yourself.

What do the Edmonton Oilers do? Well Brett Kulak takes a hooking penalty in the final minute of the 2nd period, and the Stars come out and score on the powerplay to start the 3rd.

A few minutes later Corey Perry takes a high-sticking penalty, and the Stars score on that powerplay as well. 4 minutes into the 3rd period and we have a tie game on our hands.

Just a couple more minutes after that and the Oilers take ANOTHER penalty, and the Dallas Stars score on their 3rd straight powerplay to take the lead.

3 powerplay goals in 6 minutes. Yiiiiiikes.

There's pissing down your leg. There's shitting the bed. And then there's whatever the Edmonton Oilers did last night. As if 3 in a row wasn't enough, the Stars ended up scoring the final 5 goals of the game all in the 3rd period.

I know it's cliche, but the 2-goal lead in hockey strikes again. You start to feel comfortable, you don't have McDavid screaming at everybody to dig the fuck in during the intermission, you come out flat in the 3rd and get your shit rocked.

It wouldn't be a proper playoff series without the Oilers making life way more difficult for themselves than it needs to be, so I guess they were just getting this one out of the way early. But I just don't know how the rest of the team shows up to the rink the next morning and have the ability to look McDavid and Draisaitl in the eyes after that one.

At least Corey Perry got a chance to try to jump someone at the end of the game. I'm sure that'll totally make up for everything.
