We're Finally Getting Common Sense In College Sports - The CFP Is 'Expected' To Get Rid Of Automatic Byes For Conference Champs, Use Normal Seeding

Finally. I don't ever have much faith in college sports to make a smart decision, because, well, they never really have. This would be a common sense decision. You don't give automatic byes to conference champs when you're seeding teams and the incredible unbalanced schedules. You rank the teams 1-12 and then give the top-4 byes. You can't do it just on record like the NFL because, again, that's not how it works. You give the conference champs the financial compromise but give us the seeds that make sense.

Last year was the most obvious sign of error when Oregon had to play Ohio State in the second round while Penn State got to play Boise State because of conference byes. Anyone with the smallest of brains would say that Ohio State, even in California, is a tougher opponent than Boise State. You don't think Oregon would rather take Indiana/Boise in the 2nd round and then Notre Dame/PSU in the semifinals? Come on, anyone would say yes to that.

I hate the fact we're getting 16 teams. We don't need expansion in all of these college tournaments. 12 is just fine. Spare me the argument that teams get left out, that will happen if you put 100 teams on the bracket. It's why this joke pisses me off more than it should, because I can't rule out this sort of expansion.

People are going to be pissed at rankings no matter what, but this is without a doubt the smartest way to do it. Conferences fluctuate each year in terms of being good, can't just blindly put one of them in the top-4. Just put the rankings out there, let us scream about how they are idiots and then we'll watch the games where it makes sense.
