The Next Two ‘Avengers’ Movies Have Been Delayed, Which Could Affect Spider-Man/Dune
As many (including me and Clem) predicted, Marvel has officially delayed ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ from May 2026 to December 2026 - meaning ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ will also push from May 2027 to December 2027.
It wasn't hard to see this coming considering the fact that they JUST started shooting it and a May 2026 target would give VFX artists soooo little time for Marvel's biggest possible project, which never made sense. 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' also comes out two weeks after the original release date (and they're wrapped and well into the post-production process already), so Disney would've been cannibalizing their own box office numbers for no reason. Spread that shit out!
They did something similar with both 'The Force Awakens' and 'The Last Jedi' which were originally slated for May and moved to December - and I don't think it's something fans should worry about too much. I mean, sure, delays always suck, but I truly believe they're just making sure the movie is as good and polished as possible here....and I'd always rather that than a rushed release with sloppy CGI! Take your time and nail the next two 'Avengers' so we could move onto the Mutant Saga with a good taste in our mouths.
What does suck, though, is that this could impact 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' and 'Dune: Messiah' as well....
A lot of we've heard about 'Brand New Day' rumor-wise has been that it's supposed to bridge the gap between 'Doomsday' and 'Secret Wars' - if that's true, I'd expect that release date to shift with the Avengers movies to slot in between them again. That is, if it's allowed in the strange Sony contract that requires them to spew out Spidey content on a deadline.
As far as 'Dune: Messiah' goes - now that 'Doomsday' is scheduled to release on the same day, I'd expect them to pack up shop and select a new opening weekend. I love the 'Dune' movies as much as the next guy but with Robert Downey Jr back in the MCU as Doctor Doom, nobody will be able to compete with this....not even Chalamet. Maybe Dune can get an earlier weekend and get that show on the road, or they could plant their heels in the ground and make it Barbenheimer Round 2....
