Angel Reese Starts Season Strong In Quest To Become Back-To-Back Self-Rebound Queen
Electric start to the season for Angel Reese in her quest to earn the best self-rebounder in the game award in back-to-back years. Here's where things stand after just two games in the official self-rebounding stat I spent way too much time figuring a way to code out:
Six self-rebounds through two games puts her on pace for 132 for the season which would smash her WNBA all-time record of 50 from 2024:

Now this wouldn't be the first time anyone went back-to-back self-rebound queen. Brionna Jones led the league with 20 in 2020 and 28 in 2021. Breanna Stewart took the reigns with 28 in 2022 before A'ja Wilson's 38 in 2023. That's your recent history WNBA seasonal self-rebound leaders of recent past. And for those wondering about Brittney Griner, she led in 2018 with just 26. Just over half of Reese's rookie season. And the only other woman to hit 30 since 2015 was Maya Moore that year. Gives a little perspective in what we are witnessing with Angel Reese. A 50-spot in her rookie year to set the all-time record makes one wonder just how much higher she can climb.
Speaking of A'ja Wilson, she is no slouch herself and flying high under the radar with five of her own. But I think this graph will soon turn into a Joey Chestnut lead soon enough in favor of Reese. There's never been anything like this before. An absolute beast on the boards - even as a rookie - with Mitchell Robinson free throw accuracy. Now she's in year two.
This will definitely be monitored as the season progresses. I don't think 132 is going to happen, but if we can get 100 that would be something. And I'll probably be the only person to notice. But I got you Angel. Let the haters hate. You go out there and do your thing filibustering the game so your teammates can get a few seconds to catch their breath. Chess not checkers everyone.
