Leader: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Made Sure To Close Out The Series In OKC Because He Wanted Thunder Fans To 'Celebrate, Go Home, Get Drunk'
This right here is why Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a guy who gets it. You don't want to leave your home arena and have to try and close on the road in game 6. Too many weird things can happen, especially in a sport where all it takes is one cold shooting night and you're staring down a game 7. Not to mention he looks out for the fans. He knows that Thunder fans are awesome, they've completely won me over. I have a soft spot for them since they show up and basically act like a college crowd. It's a legit home court advantage.
But he knows his crowd. They want to get drunk, celebrate, whatever they do. It's smart. I know basically everyone is ready to crown the Thunder a dynasty because they are young, have the MVP, have another All-Star, have another star in the making and roughly 28 picks in the next couple of drafts. But, we've seen young cores before never get a title or break up earlier than expected. So, yeah, if you're a Thunder fan you should be hungover this morning from celebrating. I don't know if it's me just being old or me saying who gives a shit, celebrate any win. You're back in the NBA Finals after dominating the regular season, that's something that should be celebrated every year.
I also debated writing a separate blog about how people complaining about SGA need to shut the fuck up. Watch the guy play and you'll understand how good he is. Stop falling into crying about fouls as if it's the only thing that ever happens. The guy went from being a late recruit, had Quade Green starting over him at UK to being traded to MVP. The guy is as elite as elite gets in the sport. Plus the Thunder are the team that everyone should love if you don't have a rooting interest against them. They defend their ass off, they built the team naturally and smart. It's everything opposite of what people cry when it comes to the NBA.
Not to mention the guy just wants his fans to get drunk and have a good time. Can play for my team any day of the week.
