A Dentist Qualified For The US Open, Heartbreak For Max Homa/Rickie Fowler, A 17-Year Old Dominated - The Longest Day In Golf Was Absolutely Electric

So yesterday was the longest day in Golf - US Open Qualifying. It's simple, you advance to final qualifying, you play 36 holes during Monday's 'Longest Day'. Each of the 10 courses had a certain amount of spots to qualify for the US Open. Kinsale in Ohio probably had the biggest names considering you had Rickie, Cam Young and Max Homa all there

This is where it gets tough because you had playoffs all over the place, but Kinsale delivered the biggest name moments. You had Max 3-putting on hole 36 to go to a playoff

Right after that you had Rickie do this on 18

Then in the playoff you had Max, Rickie, Cam Young, Eric Cole and Chase Johnson. It was over in one hole thanks to a birdie by Cam

Brutal for Max and Rickie not to advance. Not even that but you had the weird stipulation where Bud Cauley qualified, but is now also in the top-60 of OWGR and probably getting invited next year. So they did a playoff for the first alternate and Chase Johnson won that after Eric Cole missed a 4-foot putt to force another playoff. Got all that?

Okay, down in Atlanta you had a high school kid put on a damn show

I don't care what course you're on, if you're 17 and qualify for the US Open by going 18-under in 36 holes you put on a show. You also get all the emotions on this day:

Over at Duke you had our guy Alistair Docherty finish tie for first and get his spot in the US Open

In Washington you had a dentist - yes, a dentist- with the shot of the day and set himself up to be in the US Open

Like I said though, you get heartbreak. Like this story of a truck driver getting a horrendous DQ

But this is the beauty of the Longest Day in Golf. You get stories of all sorts with the same chance to make the US Open. I love that it's growing each year and we can sit at home and watch these events all day now. Throw in the fact you get the old school feel of fans standing around the fringe as you can make a major is something you only see on a day like this. It didn't matter what course they went to or where you were watching, it delivered.
