Jeff Garlin Has Real Life 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' Moment, Refuses To Get On Stage After Venue Screws Up $800 Check
Source - Jeff Garlin refused to go onstage at a stand-up show he was booked to perform at last week, Page Six hears — because organizers wouldn’t pay him in good old greenbacks.
Page Six is told that the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star and veteran comedian, 62, agreed to headline a comedy dinner at the Calabasas Country Club in Southern California for $800 in cash. But when he arrived at the tony venue on Thursday evening, the folks behind the booking had a check for him, rather than cold hard bills. “The crowd was pissed,” an insider said of the well-heeled locals of the famously luxe LA suburb.
Reps for Garlin didn’t get back to us.
Awkwardddddd. And just to be clear, this isn't about the money. This is about the principal. Jeff doesn't need to be there. With all due respect to the Calabasas Country Club, Jeff is bigger than you. Twelve seasons of Curb, Toy Story, WALL-E, a stand up career dating back to the 80s - he's a well known and successful guy. The fact that he's gifting arguably the stuffiest room in America with a standup set for just $800 is a testament to his character. You'd think that the staff at the Calabasas Country Club would understand that and scrounge up the $800 IN CASH that he asked for. Not much for an establishment with a $50,000 initiation fee (that he most likely pays) but nope! They fucked it up and couldn't follow the simplest of directions and for that...he walked out. Good on him. Apparently the crowd was pissed too...
“Most of them had come to see Jeff.” We’re told there were about 40 people in the audience for the regular comedy night, which appears on the country club’s schedule amid bingo nights and a Father’s Day brunch.
...An insider said it’s probably not really about the money.
“Jeff can be a very neurotic guy,” said a source.
“He can get hung up on things.”
And yes, we know he can be a "neurotic guy." This entire scenario had Curb written all over it.
Now...having said that...would it have killed him to get on stage and phone it in for 20 minutes? Maybe mentally, but physically I'm sure he could've handled it. Regardless, if Jeff asks for $800 in cash...you get him $800 in cash. Now here's a bunch of Curb bloopers to get you through the morning. Enjoy...
