Air Corgi Has Spoken: The Pacers Enter The NBA Finals With The Power Of A Magic Corgi On Their Side

Finally, welcome to the NBA Finals! Dear lord, was that wait brutal. I understand why the league has a break between the Conference Finals and the Finals, but it certainly kills the momentum of the playoffs. Thankfully, the wait is over, and we finally get back to actual basketball being played.

For both Thunder and Pacers fans, today is going to be hell. You're going to look at the clock every 5 seconds, you're probably already restless as hell given the break, and that's only going to increase as we get closer and closer to tip off. It's the best feeling and the worst feeling all at once. Sure there's pressure adn anticipation for every round of the playoffs, but nothing is like the NBA Finals. Basketball immortality is on the line and for one of these teams it will become their reality.

Who's it going to be? Both sides have a case if you ask me as both teams bring something unique to the table. If you believe it'll be OKC, you're not crazy. They've checked off every single box that an eventual champion checks off on their way to the top of the mountain. From October to June they have been the most dominant team on both ends of the floor not just this season, but in the history of the NBA. They have the high end talent, the depth, the coaching, the playstyle, the metrics, all of it.

If you believe the Pacers are going to pull off the upset, you're not crazy with that belief either. They've been the 2nd best team in the NBA since January 1st. They went through a 64 win team to get here, have one of the most unique and successful offenses not just this seasno, but in the history of the NBA. They have the high end talent, the depth, the coaching, the playstyle, the metrics, all of it.

You know what else they have on their side? The Power Of The Corgi

I love this dog, unless she picks against my favorite team, and in that case, she has no idea what she's talking about. But as someone who has no dog in the fight (no pun intended, but intended), this would make me feel great as a Pacers fan. Why? Because Air Corgi has been pretty spot on so far. She had Pacers over the Cavs, Knicks over the Celts (sigh), and then Pacers over the Knicks. Seems to me like she has a knack for sniffing out upsets, or at least that's what I would be telling my brain as a Pacers fan as we all wait for Game 1 to start.

At this stage of a playoff run, you look for anything and everything you can find that helps fit your agenda and tells you what you want to hear. Sure, the Corgi has been wrong before, but none of that matters right now if you're a Pacers fan. The entire basketball world is pretty much against you at this point, so there's no shame in getting a little crazy and diving headfirst into believing in the power of this Corgi.

Now, for Thunder fans who may be reading this blog and might now be a little shook, there is evidence that suggests once we actually get to the Finals, Air Corgi might lose her magic.

Mavs in 7 quickly turned into Celts in 5 once the games were played, so for any OKC fan out there, try and stay strong and focus on your own championship case. Remember, something insane like 43 out of the last 47 title teams hit the 40/20 Rule. You, the Thunder, are the only team in these Finals who did it. Remember, no team in NBA history that ever had a point differential of at least +11.34 did not win the title (1972 Lakers, 1971 Bucks, 1996 Bulls, 2017 Warriors, 2024 Celtics). OKC currently sits at +12.53 for the regular season and playoffs (were +12.87 during the regular season, highest of all time).

After taking the break to think about this series and even now factoring in Air Corgi's selection, it's still really hard for my brain to get past the body of work OKC has put up this season. It really feels like 2024 when the Celts had their own historic run in all the same areas OKC just completed, and we all know how that turned out. This is not to suggest the Pacers aren't awesome and aren't a worthy challenger (they are), but I know a wagon when I see a wagon, and OKC feels ready.
