Kayla Harrison Is FINALLY UFC Champion And The Superfight With Amanda Nunes Is On Deck

Ever since Kayla Harrison's UFC debut, it's almost felt like we were just waiting for her to have UFC gold wrapped around her waist. Everyone dreamed of a superfight with Amanda Nunes from the moment Kayla got signed, and the only thing truly in the way of that was Amanda's retirement - which seemed shaky at best. We all knew that once Kayla became champ, if she were able to climb that mountain, it'd convince Nunes to get back in the octagon for (at least) one more fight. They're friendly enough with each other, and have trained together in the past, but they both have as much competitive spirit as anyone in the history of the UFC.

Tonight, Kayla climbed that mountain and made pretty easy work of the Champ Julianna Pena by submitting her in the second round of their UFC 316 co-main event. She then gave a great post-fight speech where she shouted out her faith, single moms everywhere, and the fans - and then called Amanda Nunes into the octagon for a face off that fired the entire building up. I mean, the pop for the octagon entrance alone was among the loudest of the night. Nunes vs Harrison is a LEGIT superfight.

More on that later, though - Sean O’Malley vs Merab Dvalishvili is up next and a faulty railing in the crowd almost just took out Merab! I gotta lock in!
