“We Made A Sextape Kim K Would Envy” - Michael Beasley And Lance Stephenson's 1v1 Battle Is Further Proof That The NBA Needs To Add "King Of The Court" To Their All Star Weekend

If you're someone who might not fully understand Michael Beasley's Kim K reference in that quote, you've come to the right place. Before we dive into the blog, go ahead and get yourself familiar HERE

OK, that was maybe a little mean. Given how horny you had to be as a reader to click on that link, you don't deserve the blue balls, so for that I am sorry. Here you go

Christ you hornball, just find the video yourself. We're here to talk some basketball.

The real background all stems from the Michael Beasley vs Lance Stephenson 1v1 battle for $100K that took place over the weekend

All things considered, the idea/game wasn't all that bad. I'm not sure enough people realize or even know that Michael Beasley is one of the best 1v1 players on earth. Sure, maybe his NBA career didn't exactly pan out like many thought it would/should given how dominant he was in college, but 1v1 is an entirely different ballgame.

As you can expect, the battle had everything. Shit talking, elite 1v1 play, and of course, Lance Stephenson trying to fight a fan

I think most people who saw the event would declare it a successful idea, even if Beasley did get a little weird afterwards

Listen I have no idea if Kim K appreciates a good 1v1 battle, but I can't rule it out. Granted, her tape basically helped make her a billionaire, so I tend to think she wouldn't be too envious. Then again, maybe she just really loves good isolation basketball, and if that's the case, who could blame her? Elite 1s rule.

For me personally, this battle didn't make me think of Kim K's sex tape, but rather more evidence that if Adam Silver and the NBA really want to bring in eyeballs and save their All Star Weekend, the solution might be starting him right in the face.

It's simple. Give us some sort of King Of The Court event. Put $100k (or more) on the line and let's get nuts. This is something we often see when Team USA gets together, and it's always worth a watch

and let me just ask you this. Would you rather watch the awful Skills Competition that not a single soul on Earth gives a flying fuck about, or would you rather see some of the best players in the world go 1v1 for $100k? To me this feels like a no brainer.

And for those who think the big names would opt out so they wouldn't get embarrassed, I don't think that's true. Maybe someone like LeBron wouldn't participate, but I don't see this being like the Dunk Contest where the big names never sign up.

So, instead of changing the formats or creating some sort of tournament nobody asked for, why not give the fans something they have been asking for? Adding a 1v1 Challenge to All Star Weekend isn't a new idea, so what's the deal? If the idea flops, OK, no big deal. But why not try it? You're telling me people wouldn't tune in for something like that? Of course they would!

I get the idea that it may increase the risk of injury which nobody wants, but that could also happen in the actual All Star Game too, and we don't see that going away. Insert a dribble limit if you want to try and prevent disaster from happening, but someone could also land wrong in the Dunk Contest, so I don't think potential injury should be a reason to not give this idea a try. It's not like the All Star Weekend can get any worse!

Sadly, it'll probably never happen. Adam Silver loves change, but only if it's changing things that nobody asked for. Even when it feels like he has an easy layup when it comes to creating interest and hype around his All Star Weekend, his idea was to just try and copy the NHL and the 4 Nations tournament. Call me crazy, but give me 1v1s over that idea every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
