Kyle Schwarber Now Has A Chance To Be The First Player Since Derek Jeter To Win All-Star MVP And World Series MVP In The Same Season

Time is a flat circle. History always has a knack for repeating itself.

It was the summer of 2000. The midsummer classic was hosted by the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field. Derek Jeter was named All-Star Game MVP. The Yankees went on to win their 3rd straight World Series later that year, and Derek Jeter was named the World Series MVP. It was the first and last time that anybody has ever won both ASG and WS MVP in the same season. It was also the last time the all star game was hosted in Atlanta. Until last night.

It was the summer of 2025. The midsummer classic was hosted by the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park. Kyle Schwarber was named the All-Star Game MVP after going 3-for-3 in the swing off to give the NL the win.

There have been 22 ASG MVP's since Derek Jeter in 2000. Only one of them have even went on to win the World Series in the same year, and that was Melky Cabrera and the San Francisco Giants in 2012. But Pablo Sandoval ended up winning WS MVP that year.

But none of those other guys were Kyle Schwarber. This has been a bizarre Phillies season where it feels like the team sucks, but they're also leading the division. They've played a considerable amount of shitty baseball so far this season, and they're still going to be playing in the postseason. Maybe this is the moment that'll flip the switch for the Phillies. Maybe they just needed some good juice flowing their way.

It's Hoagiefest. Kyle Schwarber is the All-Star Game MVP. Zack Wheeler is the favorite to win the NL Cy Young. And the trash is finally getting picked up in Philly again. Just as everyone was starting to lose faith in the Phils, it seems like the perfect time for this team to turn into some shit kickers for the 2nd half of the season. And maybe consider extending Hoagiefest until November.
