Maurene Comey, The Prosecutor Who Handled The Diddy AND Ghislaine Maxwell Trials, Has Been Fired

NY Times - Maurene Comey, a Manhattan federal prosecutor who worked on the criminal cases against Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, was fired on Wednesday, according to six people with knowledge of the matter.

The reason for Ms. Comey’s firing was not initially clear. Her dismissal immediately raised questions, given her involvement in cases that have roiled the White House in recent days, as well the fact that her father is the former F.B.I. director James Comey, who was fired by President Trump during his first term.

A spokesman for the Southern District of New York declined to comment. The White House press office did not immediately respond to a request for comment, including about whether it had asked the Justice Department to fire Ms. Comey.

Mr. Trump and his attorney general, Pam Bondi, have been seeking to quell outrage from many of the president’s supporters over their reluctance to release files related to Mr. Epstein’s sex-trafficking case. The issue has sowed significant dissent and infighting among Mr. Trump’s base.

Another day, another suspiciously timed ousting in American justice.

Maurene Comey Comey, daughter of former FBI director James “but her emails” Comey, just got the boot from her gig as a federal prosecutor in Manhattan. Fired. Canned. Escorted out with a sad cardboard box. And good fucking riddance.

Though she deserved to be fired for her abysmal job in prosecuting Diddy last month, no details have been given as to why she was relieved of duty.

Let's talk about that Diddy case for a minute.

Do you know how truly terrible you have to be at your job as a prosecutor to take a case where somebody is as convincingly guilty in the court of public opinion as Sean Combs was heading into trial, over-charge the absolute fuck out of him, then not only fail to meet any of those standards required to find him guilty of said charges, but also not even call major witnesses to the stand ("Gina" aka Victim #3, and Aubrey O'Day, to name just a few)... It was so bad that when the prosecution was done with presenting their side, the defense didn't even bother calling a single witness, and just decided to rest.

I know I use this analogy a lot, but as the resident conspiracy theory cook around here, I can't help but think about the scene in Casino where DeNiro's character Ace Rothstein confronts the local politicians idiot cowboy son -

"If you didn't know you were being scammed you're too fucking dumb to keep this job, and if you did know you were in on it. Either way you're out."

As of now, nobody has any idea why she was fired. Six people “with knowledge of the matter” confirmed she’s out, but the reason is buried deeper than Epstein’s client list. (Which doesn't exist)

This isn’t some random assistant DA handling parking tickets. This is the woman who helped prosecute Ghislaine Maxwell, the socialite madam of Epstein’s underage sex-trafficking empire, after Epstein conveniently Houdini’d himself out of a trial in 2019 by “suicide.” Maxwell is currently serving 20 years in federal prison for being found guilty of sex trafficking underage girls to nobody. Pretty interesting…

The thing I can't exactly figure out, when playing skeptic/unhinged conspiracy theorist, is why would she be sure to put Maxwell away for the rest of her life, and basically "tank" the Diddy trial?

Her dad was famously fired by Trump back in the day. And you better know, Trump didn’t forget. Trump holds grudges the way normal people hold onto family heirlooms. He makes Portnoy look like The Prodigal Son's father.

But here’s where things really went off the rails. In the last few days, Trump has been blabbering that the Epstein files, the ones that could vaporize half of elite America if they ever saw sunlight, were “concocted” by James Comey, Biden, and Obama. No evidence, of course. Just "a hunch". Aka default mode.

And right as Trump and his inner circle are feeling the heat from their own base about not releasing the Epstein files, BADA BING! Maurene Comey gets axed. Fired under Article II of the Constitution, which basically says, “The president can do whatever the fuck he wants.”

To add more to it, you'll never believe it, but Comey herself had filed a declaration this year saying that releasing certain Epstein documents could jeopardize the safety of witnesses and potential retrials, particularly around Maxwell.

My fried brain isn't capable of connecting all these dots juts yet. But as of now, my guess is that it sure looks like she’s being shoved under the bus to clear the way for a political stunt of some sort. I think we will see the unsealing of files that will either A- be so heavily redacted they look like black Sharpie art, or B- be selectively leaked to burn old enemies while protecting current friends.

Real talk and reminder - nobody in Washington gives two shits about justice for Epstein’s victims.

The whole Epstein-Maxwell saga has been a perverted cocktail party for the rich and powerful. And when things got too messy, the main guy just happened to hang himself on camera failure night. Now, Maurene Comey, the prosecutor closest to this radioactive mess, is being booted, and the official response is: “No comment.”

Trump’s loyalists are busy setting fire to social media, demanding the Epstein files be released so they can finally confirm that Hillary Clinton, Tom Hanks, Oprah, and Big Bird (allegedly) were all on the Lolita Express to Little St. James.

My bold prediction is, that in a few weeks, the files that do get released will be cherry-picked to distract us. Diddy’s name will resurface to soak up headlines, and the people who actually pulled the strings in the Epstein operation will continue sipping their $3,000 Louis XIII on private islands you and I will never step foot on.

This Maurene Comey firing isn’t a glitch in the system. This is the system. And the fact that anyone’s pretending otherwise is the real insult. Per usual. There is absolutely nothing to see here. Move along now.

Eddie, Chief, Danny and I discussed this whole circus and more on Dogwalk last week.

p.s. - I can't wait to watch this

---- UPDATE -----

I didn't think this was going to be posted, so I didn't update it earlier. But Maurene issued a statement this afternoon, finally addressing the situation.

CNN - Maurene Comey, a federal prosecutor and the daughter of former FBI director James Comey, told her former colleagues in an email that her sudden firing should “fuel the fire” of their work fighting abuses of power.

Yesterday was unexpectedly my last day in the Office. I was summarily fired via memo from Main Justice that did not give a reason for my termination.

Every person lucky enough to work in this office constantly hears four words to describe our ethos: Without Fear or Favor.

Do the right thing, the right way, for the right reasons without fear of retribution and without favor to the powerful.

For the majority of my nearly ten years in SDNY, fear was never really conceivable. We don’t fear bad press; we have the luxury of exceptional security keeping us physically safe; and, so long as we did our work with integrity, we would get to keep serving the public in this office. Our focus was really on acting “without favor.” That is, making sure people with access, money, and power were not treated differently than anyone else; and making sure this office remained separate from politics and focused only on the facts and the law.

But we have entered a new phase where “without fear” may be the challenge. If a career prosecutor can be fired without reason, fear may seep into the decisions of those who remain. Do not let that happen. Fear is the tool of a tyrant, wielded to suppress independent thought. Instead of fear, let this moment fuel the fire that already burns at the heart of this place. A fire of righteous indignation at abuses of power. Of commitment to seek justice for victims. Of dedication to truth above all else.

It has been an honor to fight for those principles by your side.
