Dustin Poirier Didn't Get The Win In His Final Fight, But He Did Receive An All Time Send Off

What a god damn fight Dustin Poirier vs Max Holloway III just was. That was incredible. Max rocked Dustin, Dustin rocked Max - I thought the fight was gonna get finished by both of them at different points; it was everything we wanted and more outta Poirier's final twenty five minutes in the octagon. Definitely the epitome of a BMF Championship fight....

Max controlled the majority of the fight and got the decision, and I don't want to take anything away from the amazing performance he put on - but tonight obviously wasn't about that. It was about celebrating the career of Dustin Poirier ahead of his retirement, and I'm not sure any fighter has had a more extravagant send off in UFC history.

From the card being put in his home state, to Weezy walking him out, to the video packages that have played all night....

It's as storybook an ending as you could ask for without the win. And I know MMA retirements don't typically last, but I definitely believe Poirier when he says he's done. He has talked about hating fight week/having anxieties about it for years and has plenty of other ventures (see: Poirier's Louisiana Style Hot Sauce) that will make up for the money missed out on fighting. I think he'll be just fine.

Plus, it'd be awkward as hell to come back after all that!

Congrats on a phenomenal career Dustin Poirier, and thank you for all of the entertainment over the years.

P.S. Max Holloway keeping his post-fight speech short and hyping Poirier up during his was classy as hell….
