Anakin Skywalker Is The Most Relatable Character In All of Star Wars

I know a lot of people probably won’t agree with this, but deep down, it’s the truth, at least for me, and where I’m at in my life. Anakin Skywalker is the most relatable character in all of Star Wars because, honestly, he’s the most human. Yeah, he eventually becomes Darth Vader and does some fucked up shit (RIP to the Jedi younglings), but let’s set the lightsaber down for a second and actually look at the guy. Anakin wasn’t some perfect superhero. He was flawed, emotional, and conflicted. And that’s why he feels real.
One of the things I’ve always liked about Anakin is that he didn’t fake being perfect. The Jedi were all about shutting down emotions, staying detached, and following this weird code that felt like it was written by a bunch of guidance counselors. Meanwhile, Anakin’s over here like, “Bro, I’m just trying to figure this shit out.” He questioned stuff. He got angry. He made mistakes. And honestly? That’s what we do in real life. You’re doing your best, but it still feels like you’re messing everything up. Everyone’s telling you how to act, how to live, how to be, and you’re just trying to not lose your mind in the process.
Anakin gave into emotion, just like all of us do. He wasn’t weak, he just felt things. Deeply. Fear, anger, love, sadness, he wasn’t numb to it. He wasn’t out here playing it cool like the rest of the Jedi. He cared. Maybe too much. But in a world where dudes are constantly told to “man up” or “stop being soft,” seeing someone that emotional, especially someone in his position, was relatable. Yeah, he didn’t always handle it well (RIP the Sand People), but it was real.
And the most relatable part? He would do anything for the people he loved. Even if it meant losing himself. His love for Padmé wasn’t perfect, it was messy, borderline obsessive, and honestly kind of toxic at times. But it was real. He loved with his whole heart, even when it hurt him. And if you’ve ever been in love, you know it can wreck you. Sometimes love makes you blind. Sometimes it makes you reckless. Sometimes it makes you do dumb shit. But that’s part of being human.
People also forget what he went through with the people he trusted most. Anakin was told to trust the Jedi Council, to listen and follow their every word, and they straight up turned on him. They never fully believed in him. They used him, manipulated him, and when he needed them most, they left him out to dry. That kind of betrayal hits hard. Because we’ve all been there. Maybe not on a galaxy level, but still. Bosses, friends, family, and people you looked up to. When they let you down, it doesn’t just suck, it changes you. Anakin didn’t fall just because of power. He fell because he was hurt.
But here’s the part people skip over, he came back. He didn’t stay lost forever. In the end, it wasn’t rage or hate that defined him. It was redemption. It was love. His son reminded him of who he used to be. And even after all the mistakes, all the pain, all the darkness, he found his way back to himself. And if that isn’t one of the realest things about life, I don’t know what is. We fall off. We fuck up. We betray our own values. But we try to come back. And when we do? We come back stronger.
Anakin Skywalker isn’t just some character for kids. He’s a mirror. A confused, emotional, angry, loyal, heartbroken mirror. And in a galaxy full of wise masters, perfect heroes, and Sith Lords, he’s the one who actually feels like us.
