How Can You Not Be Romantic About Baseball After Seranthony Dominguez Was Traded From Baltimore To Toronto In The Middle Of A Doubleheader

Baseball is without a doubt the most comically unserious professional sport of them all.

The draft is like 50 rounds and there are over 600 players drafted every year. There are ELEVEN (11!!!!) different minor leagues. Seasons are 162 games long, and games could take anywhere from 2 hours to a full day. There are thousands of players who are playing thousands of games that take thousands of hours.

Every once in a while, the GMs just need to make a silly little move to break up the monotony of it all. So in between yesterdays doubleheader between the Orioles and Blue Jays, a couple of bird teams decided it would be hilarious to pull off a quick trade. Which, in fact, it was.

Seranthony Dominguez was on Baltimore for the first half of the day playing against Toronto. Then he ends up getting traded to Toronto, switches his jersey, runs across to the other dugout, and ends up pitching against the Orioles in game 2.

All things considered, it's probably the best possible way to get traded. Sure, that initial walk out of your clubhouse into the visiting team's clubhouse might be a bit awkward. But you meet the guys right away, you get into some game action immediately, and Toronto still has another game left to play in Baltimore later today. So Seranthony gets to go home, sleep in his own bed one more time, pack up and hop right on the plane back to Toronto with the Blue Jays after the game.

There's just no other sport where this situation would even be possible. And that's what I love so much about this move. These are two GMs who saw an opportunity, and they took it. They knew NFL and NBA and NHL GMs would die to be able to pull something like this off. They aren't taking that for granted, and they pulled the trigger on the trade. Tough break for Seranthony Dominguez who now has to completely uproot his life again for the 2nd time in 2 years. But that's show business, baby.
