The Cubs Just Aren't A Serious Organization

A different white flag should be flying over Wrigley right now because this deadline was nothing more than a surrender. I just don't get it. The Cubs have a window. It's open right now. There were big, front of the rotation, playoff arms that were on the market and the Cubs decided to punt while they have a real chance to win the World Series. Not supplementing this roster is a failure.

The majority of the core is approaching or, in most cases, over 30. THIS IS THE WINDOW!

You can't convince me that the Cubs shouldn't be going for it. If you sign Kyle Tucker then your lineup is basically set for the next three years. Your outfield certainly is. Why not give up the top prospects in exchange for Mackenzie Gore and just go win right now? He has two more years of control which would be the Cubs would in theory have three playoff runs with Gore. No worries though, Mike Soroka has good underlying data. Sick.

I think today likely proves that the Cubs are NOT going to re-sign Kyle Tucker. And if you're not going to re-sign him then yeah you do need prospects to re-start this entire rebuild again. And that is probably something Jed should've known back in December when he traded Cam Smith for Tucker. Why even make that trade for Kyle Tucker if you're not trying to win right now? Didn't want to pay Bregman. Didn't want to trade for pitching help. Don't want to pay Tucker. Don't care about winning. Content to sell beer bats and ice cream helmets to a full stadium and print money.

PS: I am starting to think that the Ricketts are just waiting out this current CBA. It ends after the 2026 season. Feels like they are willing to ride it out until they know what the world looks like after a new labor agreement which I am sure they are PRAYING includes a salary cap of some sort.
