Buddy Baker Has To Put His Ego Aside, Tuck His Tail, And Get Terry McLaurin Extended
Buddy Baker is a real name of a real agent who represents Terry McLaurin. If you are wondering why you haven't heard the name Buddy Baker before it's because Terry is Buddy's only high-profile client. Buddy's other clients are 98% UDFAs, most of whom aren't on rosters. To put it lightly, Buddy Baker is a drug-store agent. He's a "we have an agent at home" ass agent. You would barely trust him to represent your kid's lemonade stand, nevermind your superstar WR. But for some reason, Buddy Baker is who Terry McLaurin pays to represent him and boy it is not going well at all.
From my perspective, it's pretty clear why Terry is holding out and has not inked an extension and that reason is because Buddy Baker has no clue what he's doing. He's bit off more than he can chew. He's a little leaguer trying to play for the Yankees. It seems that ol' Buddy promised Terry top 5 WR money, sold Terry a bill of goods, and then was laughed out of the office by Adam Peters. It seems that Adam Peters told Buddy to come back when he was serious. And this isn't a slight to Terry at all- I mean the guy is a 1,000 yard WR machine. My favorite WR to ever suit up for the Commies. A great human being, a great teammate, a great leader, a great presence in the locker room. Everything you want in a player and more. But his agent is a dufus who doesn't understand how the business works. Buddy is used to getting guys practice squad tryouts, not negotiating massive WR deals. And enough is enough, it's time he admits his mistakes and comes back to the negotiating table in good faith, not ego.
Terry is worthy of an extension, but it seems like some people are forgetting he is already under contract for $25 million this season! It's not like he's out there making peanuts. He deserved the $25 million extension then, and he deserves a raise now. But he shouldn't be getting Justin Jefferson money at 31 years old. But it seems that Buddy Baker looks at Terry as his meal ticket, promising Terry a contract that would never happen. So now his only move is to either get fired or tuck his tail and take a lesser deal while admitting to Terry he fucked up. Just a bad agent.
Terry is an unreal WR. A top 10-15 WR in the league. He is extremely important to Jayden's development and we don't make the NFC Championship Game without him. But you also can't pay a guy $10 million a year over face value because of things that happened in the past. Adam Peters wants to pay him what he deserves, but he can't mortgage the future for things that happened in the past. And I need Buddy Fucking Baker to understand this and quit the shit and get Terry signed.
