A No-Brainer That Needs To Happen: Roger Goodell Suggested That We Could Now Be Getting A College Football RedZone Every Saturday
I know ESPN tried that Goal Line thing and it failed. This is different. This is Red Zone, this is something that has worked at the highest level and with the whole ESPN/NFL deal they would have the capability to do it the right way. Actually, the right way is getting everyone involved:
It makes all the sense in the world. You have more games, more time slots and everything from low level to high major games on Saturday's. Again, I'm not saying you would have this on TV1 when there's a big game or your team is playing, but those Saturday's where you can just toss it on and not to do much is perfect.
I don't think it works with other sports. I see people saying how this could go to basketball, it would never work with basketball. The Big East has tried something like this on the first day of the season with look-ins at all the games, it doesn't work. It's too much action and the pace is too much to not commit to a full game. But college football? Absolutely perfect for it. But you can't do it just with teams who have TV deals with ESPN. Won't work that way and it's what makes the NFL RedZone easy to do.
Then it comes down to who hosts it. Seems like a lot of people saying Joe Tessitore, fine by me. He at least has been around college football and called games there. I'd say go get someone new. Call up Andrew Sciliano, see if he'll do the college version of it.
But, yeah, this would right a lot of wrong. I just want my channels to all stay the same, in fact let's go back to the old days when ESPN was channel 32 (MTV was 29, VH1 was 42). Just give us the RedZone option for college football and we can make it work.
