WINNING: There Is A Charlie Sheen Documentary Coming Out On Netflix, And It Looks To Be A Must Watch

Variety - Netflix has acquired the two-part documentary film “aka Charlie Sheen,” which chronicles the star’s struggle with fame — leading to his infamous 2011 firing from “Two and a Half Men” — followed by his path to sobriety. The film will launch Sept. 10 on the streamer.

Having tempered his tiger blood ways, Sheen opens up for the documentary, which also speaks to family, friends and cast members including Denise Richards, Heidi Fleiss, Jon Cryer, Sean Penn, Ramon Estevez, Brooke Mueller, Chris Tucker and even Sheen’s drug dealer Marco. Sheen has been on a bit of a redemption tour for sometime, having since patched things up with “Two and a Half Men” exec producer Chuck Lorre — and even appearing in Lorre’s “Bookie.”

Here’s the logline for the doc: “Tabloid black hole Charlie Sheen knows what’s been said about him, and he’s finally ready to confess. ‘aka Charlie Sheen’ tracks his upbringing in Malibu to his effortless rise to megastardom — and dramatic fall, all within the public eye. With a stunning clarity earned through seven years of sobriety, Sheen openly speaks about the subjects and events he’s never discussed publicly before. Through extraordinarily candid interviews with his family, friends, and cast members, the most outrageous moments of Sheen’s life are revisited with raw emotion and exceptional warmth, painting a portrait of a flawed man whose penchant for self-destruction is ultimately no match for the ferocious love and forgiveness he inspires in those closest to him.”

I can’t fucking wait for this.

I am unabashed Charlie Sheen fan. And always have been.

You can say whatever you want about the guy, but one thing you can't deny is how talented he is.

I was too young at the time it came out, but when I was old enough to watch and understand it, one of his earliest works- Red Dawn showed the kind of promise the man had at the tender age of 19.

From there it was a sting in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, followed by a leading role in Platoon which catupulted him into Hollywood stardom.

Wall Street, Major League, Men At Work (fucking awesome and underrated movie), followed by some action blockbusters, with some absolute smoke bomb costars, in Terminal Velocity-

and The Chase

(Kristy Swanson was so fucking hot I can't stand it)

But from there, it was mostly "meh" movie after "meh" movie for Sheen until Two and A Half Men.

When you talk about perfect roles for somebody, I'm not sure you can do much better than Charlie Sheen playing Charlie Harper in Two and A Half Men. His natural "acting", if you even want to call it that, coupled with Chuck Lorre's writing, were a match made in heaven. Sheen was basically playing himself the entire time. Add in the fact that it aired during a time where we still were allowed to appreciate and celebrate smoking hot babes for being smoking hot babes- and Two And A Half Men kept a steady rotation of them- and the show was a grand slam.

Sheen was an unapologetic hound-dog on the show, again, a nod to his true self, and lived the bachelor lifestyle every man fantasized about from his beachfront property in Malibu. Minus his deadbeat brother mooching off him.

Without this turning into a Two and A Half Men tribute blog (something I should probably do one of these days), it was arguably the peak of Sheen's career. He was commanding more money per show than anybody in Hollywood, he was beloved by pretty much everyone in households across the country, and he could do no wrong.

Then things went horribly, terribly, off the rails.

Drugs, public outbursts, very public fights and disputes, arrests, more drugs, meltdowns, and on and on.

Although the whole "tiger blood" interview was comedic gold, it was depressing at the same time, because we were watching a gifted man fall apart under a magnifying glass.

One thing I don't think Sheen has ever gotten the credit he deserves for, is how smart he is. And not just for his famous response to being asked why a guy as rich, famous, and handsome as him still pays for sex. Answer: "I don't. I pay them to leave."

It's great seeing Sheen clean, and made up with people he was at war at for a long time like Lorre. I'm happy he has his life in order and seems happy. And I can't wait to hear everything straight out of the horses mouth when this comes out.

p.s. - my younger sister Audra actually met Sheen while she was on vacation, at a resort he was living at in Mexico a few years ago, and they became friends. Not in a hook-up kind of way. (He had his own girls there with him.) But in a, he legit sends her Christmas cards with friendly handwritten letters every year kind of way. She said he was actually the complete opposite of creepy, and was overly polite and respectful not just to her but to everybody he interacted with. She swears he's one of the smartest and nicest guys she's ever met. He was insanely generous with his money towards everybody working at the resort and even the other guests- always buying everybody drinks, meals, etc. And that he had a gambling addiction that blew any substance addiction he had out of the water. I guess he's the biggest Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Clippers fan who's ever lived? Random af. I'd still be a fan of Sheen's without any of that knowledge, but knowing what a good guy he is made it easier to root for him.
