Pennsylvania Little Leaguers Make Philly Proud, Absolutely Give It To Pete Alonso On His Way Back To The Dugout After Strikeout
Growing up in the Philly area, you are raised to love two baseball teams--the Phillies, and whoever is playing against the Mets. I'm sure these little rascals from Upper Uwchlan would have loved to be able to watch Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber obliterate balls 450 feet into the night, but they could also just as easily settle for watching Pete Alonso go down after a couple of whiffs.
The beauty of the Little League World Series is that it reminds us what the game is all about. Sports aren't about $700 million contracts. It's about kids having fun out there with their best pals. And there's nothing more fun than all collectively hating somebody or something else, and being able to laugh at their expense. Collective hate and collective joy are two sides of the same coin. And when you grow up as a Philly fan, you come to the realization at an early age that you sometimes find more joy in hating.
These kids were raised the right way. Sure, it's great when your favorite team wins. But something in your DNA craves the satisfaction from knowing your enemies are miserable.
