This Cell Phone Video of a Plane Crashing Onto a Golf Course is About The Clearest Plane Crash Footage You'll See
NY Post – Insane video shows the moment a small plane made an emergency landing on a golf course in Australia early Sunday afternoon in an apparent flying lesson gone wrong.
A pilot instructor and his student, both believed to be in their 50s, crash landed at the Mona Vale Golf Course along Sydney’s Northern Beaches around 2 p.m. in front of shocked golfers.
The two men on board the light plane only suffered minor injuries and were treated by paramedics on the course.
They were both transported to the Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition, a NSW Ambulance spokesman told NewsWire.
"FORE!!!"
Sorry, I always want to do a cheesy, NY Post-style opening article quip like that. But I never let myself do it, because they're really lame. This time I couldn't help myself. I wonder if the pilot yelled that on their way down.
There are not many jobs in the world I envy less than "Flight Instructor". I'm sure "Driving Instructor" is technically 1000x more dangerous. And I'm sure, much like a driving instructor, the flight instructor has his own set of controls in front of him so he can take over the plane as needed (at least I hope so). But to get in one those tiny things with a guy who's never (or barely) flown before in his life... no thank you. There's nothing your backup controls can do when your shitty little training plane loses power mid-air.
It's kinda fucked up how when you learn to fly, you start out flying a the type of plane that's most likely to crash (aside from a Boeing, folks). Not that there's really a better option. You probably can't just start a guy off flying a commercial jet. But there's still something backwards seeming about how the better you get at flying, the safer the plane they give you.
I must say, this HAS to be the first plane crash I've seen where the person crashing the plane doesn't look like the biggest goof in the video.
Way to spring into action, Mike. A for effort. But you did made the video look a bit like a scene from Looney Tunes. I can't help but think that clip would have hit harder with a little Boots Randolph playing in the background
Eh, it kinda works.
As far as real-time plane crashes go, that's might be the clearest video I've ever seen. You really gotta be in the right place at the right time (which is often a golf course) to catch one with your iPhone 16.
Usually when you see a plane crash, it's been caught on some sort of security camera that's rolling 24/7. Or maybe a broadcast. My "favorite" (seems wrong to say favorite, but this is my most-watched) plane crash video is this one that was called by a play-by-play commentator during an Alaskan Baseball League game.
"And it's on fire…" (there were reportedly no major injuries)
Occasionally a Ring doorbell camera will catch a plane crash landing into a neighborhood tree, or skidding into a house.
Plane crashes. Scary stuff. I hope to never be a part of one someday. Although sometimes when I'm nervous on a plane, I like to calm myself down by convincing myself that dying in a plane crash would be a great way to go. I think, "You've lived a good, respectable-ish life. If you die in a plane crash, people will remember you fondly. It won't be your fault. You won't be on your deathbed thinking that you should have taken care of yourself better. Nobody can say anything bad about you. If heaven is real, God wouldn't deny anybody who died so tragically, right? And if I do survive, then that'll be a pretty awesome story to have. Yep, I actually WANT this plane to crash right now."
And then I'm calm. I don't want it to happen. It's just a nice little mental trick for anybody out there who gets nervous flying.
Glad to hear the pilot and his pilot trainee who crashed on the golf course were ok. If they weren't, this blog would have been much darker.
