'I Was Cooked' - Dan Hurley Claims He Thought About Retiring This Offseason Because Chasing A 3rd Title Was Too Draining, Had Talks To Join FOX As An Analyst

“I knew my mind, and I knew my body, and I could feel that I was completely cooked,” Hurley writes. “Just burnt. I didn’t even know how I was standing. I stared at the office walls, muttering, conducting a brutal review of our season.

“I even talked to a TV executive about doing some commentary,” Hurley continued. “The previous summer, I talked to Jay Wright about life after basketball. He said he was actually happy, sleeping. He wasn’t sick to his stomach nine months of the year.”

If theres one person who wold come out and admit they considered retiring it’s 100% Dan Hurley. All you have to do is go back to his playing days at Seton Hall or listen to him talk on a regular basis and it wouldn't be shocking to see him leave. But, at the same tie were talking about a Hurley. They are the name of basketball coaching, mostly because Bob Hurley Sr. is a legend and then his two sons just so happen to coach Division I basketball. Not a bad family tree! 

Now, I get why people wold be hesitant to believe any part of this story. It is Hurley coming off his worst year in the last 3 seasons, every time he made a face, it was clipped and all over social media and the Lakers flirtation. I think he debated it for roughly 24 hours and then realized he has another title contending team coming into Storrs this year and that fixed a lot of problems. 

I said this during the Lakers flirtation. Dan Hurley is good for college basketball. The sport is driven by coaches and those top coaches having some sort of personality. Its what made the old Big East so damn good and why we want it back. It’s why the sport is better with guys like Hurley, Self, Calipari, Izzo, Cronin, these guys that have been around for a while now and provide content, whether you love them or not. So consider me a fan of Hurley sticking around to be the villain for another year. Plus, Creighton fans need him so they have some sort of hatred out there.
