You're Never Going To Believe This, But It Turns Out Howard Stern Isn't Going Anywhere And The Whole Story About Him Getting Fired Was Fake

The radio icon, 71, faked out his fans on Monday morning while confirming that “The Howard Stern Show” is coming back.

“I know you’re expecting a big announcement from Howard and this is not how things were meant to go,” Cohen 57, said, adding that it’s been a “surreal morning here.”

Following reports that Stern wasn’t returning to his show, he brought Andy Cohen on for a staged bit where he played into the rumors.

But Stern eventually came on air and confirmed the whole thing was a joke and that he’s returning to Sirius.

Today in "Boomer Plays a Prank" Howard Stern isn't actually getting fired! Who'd have thunk it?! The guy who basically owns the network isn't getting let go. Thank god. Our long national nightmare is finally over. Now I can stop writing about about it. The second Andy Cohen opened his mouth I think everyone knew what was happening too. When the King Of All Media asks you for a favor you do it, but that may have been the most transparent prank of all time. You could've been blind, deaf, and dumb, and still understood exactly what was going on. It felt like 90s radio prank. Here's Andy's portion…

That said, Howard's contract is still up at the end of the year. I doubt he'll get anything close to the $500 million he got last time, but if he wants to stick around Sirius will make it work. Even though his numbers are down, even though his show isn't what it used to be, even though he's difficult to work with, even though it would be a legitimately bad business decision…they will make it work. In their eyes, Howard has earned that.

From the CEO of Sirius…

CEO Jennifer Witz added: “I think he’s been core to our platform for over 20 years, so I’m confident we’ll get to the right place.”

See? Some people are simply grandfathered into jobs regardless of performance. It happens at every single company. The true test will be if Howard can keep this publicity going. I'd like to see him just rage bait everyone into listening. That or get Artie back for a couple of shows, which will never happen. Oh well. Congrats to Howard on the job. Have a lovely Monbday.
