This Week In "Tweets I Wish I Phrased Different": My Rome Odunze Tweet

Hand up...I should've chosen my words more carefully on this tweet. In the moment, after another critical drop on the Bears way to another demoralizing and embarrassing loss I fired off a tweet that didn't really capture how I feel and people, rightfully, dragged me for it. That's fine. Comes with the territory of having a big following and saying something sort of stupid. The replies to the tweet are largely correct. So let me clarify how I actually feel:

Here is what I was thinking...I don't think Rome is going to be a star, elite level WR1. I had the Cowboys-Giants game on at the same time. Malik Nabers is an absolute dog. You watch him and you get a different feeling than you do when watching Rome. I like Rome. He's a good player. Glad he's on the team. I do NOT trust him in critical situations at this point. It is VERY early and the Bears have a lot of problems outside of him, but I don't view him as a guy like Chase, Lamb, Jefferson, etc. Those game changing type of WRs that scare the shit out of opposing defenses. When you draft a WR in the top 10 that is the type of player you need to be getting.

His draft is also viewed through the lens of Ryan Poles being an absolute disaster on draft day thus far. The Bears had a ton of problems on the roster. I don't think the Bears were in a position to draft a guy that far away from the ball unless he's a super star type. Benefit of hindsight, but it certainly looks like the Bears would've been better off taking Bowers in that spot, especially since they ended up draft Loveland so high 12 months later in the 2025 draft.

I like Rome. He is a good looking young WR. The Bears just absolutely suck at building a roster and having a pretty good WR on the outside of a team that can't block, rush the passer, or cover anyone seems like a misallocation of resources and poor judgement by the front office.

The tweet is on me, it was bad. I stand by this blog and the logic of the original tweet which I didn't say the right way because the Bears have broken my brain. I also don't care that he put up a great stat line in a blowout. The end.

PS: this made me laugh. PFT joke
