And Just Like That, The Guardians Sweep The Tigers In Detroit (With Tarik Skubal Pitching Today) And Their Divisional Lead Is Down To 3.5 Games

IS THIS REAL LIFE RIGHT NOW????

The Guardians lost 10 straight games, had two pitchers kicked off the team midseason for gambling, and sat 15.5 games behind Detroit for the division lead. That feels like it was twenty minutes ago. This season felt dead in the water multiple times. But we avoided trading Kwan at the deadline, have had good spurts here and there, and now we've saved our best act for last. We've rattled off 12 wins in our last 13 games, sit at 81-71 overall, and our fans are no longer just checking AL West and AL East scores each night hoping to back into the last Wild Cart slot, we're saying feed us the Tigers next week in Cleveland so we can win the fucking division ourselves!!!!

Folks if this happens…..nevermind, I don't even want to say it.

But no way, right? No way the best team in baseball at one point this season, the Tigers, blow a 15.5 game divisional lead and get caught by the Guardians. But I'd have also said no way do we go into Detroit and take not one, not two, but all three games this week. And that's not because I doubt the Guards or respect the Tigers or anything, but rather because for us to do so, it'd have meant we beat the greatest regular season pitcher of our generation:

Giphy Images.

That was their ace up their sleeve. The Guardians essentially had to sweep Detroit this week or the divisional race was all but done, and they had Skubal going at home on Thursday. But Tanner Bibee went toe to toe with the soon to be 2x Cy Young winner, and the Guardians got him out of the game after 6 to allow the greatest player in franchise history to take over:

Sometimes I thank God that I got to watch Jose Ramirez play baseball. Tigers fans probably feel the exact opposite though, as he absolutely KILLS them. I'm so fired up right now. We're playing the best baseball in the league right now and the Tigers appear to be crumbling before our very eyes. Someone pinch me. But I'm going to try and stay grounded because there's a hell of lot of work left to be done. Like, we'd still have to sweep them again most likely and that will include another matchup with Skubal, who is a fucking dog, especially when he needs to be. But man does this feel good to be right in the thick of things after we were dead in the water….

Anyways, the good news is coming in bunches today as the Red Sox just lost to the A's and the Wild Card race is getting tighter as well:

And it seems like everyone still plays each other. We have the Tigers and Rangers still. But the Tigers have the Red Sox. And the Mariners still have the Astros for 3 games. This is going to be one hell of a ride down the stretch, and I'm just fired the fuck up to be a part of it.
