'Everywhere I Left, They Were Mad. Except Kentucky. They Were Happy.' - John Calipari Finally Realized The Whole Point Of Why We Wanted Him Gone
I fully admit that year 2 of Calipari being at Arkansas feels different. I forgot about him for the most part, mostly because Mark Pope was successful and only getting better. We're in fine hands, better hands even, so it's not like we lost the divorce and had to settle for the hideous person at 2am while Cal left with Giusy Meloni. No, we left with the hot chick who you didn't notice at first when you walked in. That's Mark Pope. You're damn right I just compared Mark Pope to a sneaky hot girl at the bar.
But, this? This is the most telling and self-aware that John Calipari has sounded since he left Kentucky. He knows we were happy, because it was time. You don't stay together for the kids just because Christmas is coming. We're happy because we weren't getting the John Calipari that had Kentucky rolling, a ton of Final Four trips, a title. We were getting the John Calipari who suffered a ton of humiliating losses and couldn't beat Oakland or St. Peter's. Yeah, of course we weren't thrilled, what fanbase would be?
Part of me thinks he's trying to be a villain or painted as the guy who got a raw deal. Nope. He will be honored at Kentucky down the road. It's pretty simple that we are going to cheer against him and hate his guts while he coaches a team trying to beat us. It's not like he left for the NBA or something like that. He will get his time back at Rupp Arena and not be showered with boos, it just ain't happening as he coaches Arkansas. So, yeah, of course the mid-majors are upset that you left. We're not a mid-major, we're Kentucky. The exact thing I needed to get reminded that the season starts in less than a week.
