My New Favorite Hypothetical College Football Playoff Scenario Is If 9-3 Texas Or 10-2 Notre Dame Get In… Hear Me Out

Yesterday’s Pick Em got a little chaotic for a few reasons. For starters I couldn’t complete a cliche to save my life. 

And then we got to breaking down the Texas Vandy game where the topic came up of Texas’s path the rest of the way which is very difficult, especially potentially without Arch Manning, and whether or not they had a realistic shot at the playoff. 

For starters - Texas remaining schedule is : 

Vandy 

@ Georgia 

Arkansas 

Vs Texas A&M 

Now, I do not think they can go 4-0, but if they do it’s pretty simple- playoff team. The same can be said if they go 2-2,1-3 of 0-4. Enjoy your gift basket at some random bowl when half your players sit out. 

The real debate or interesting thing to me here is if they go 3-1 and one of those wins being A&M. My rationale is they can split between Vandy or Georgia and go 1-1. Reminder they are favored Saturday so it very well could be beating Vandy. They then take care of business vs Arkansas, beat A&M (likely undefeated at that point) and be 9-3 with top tier wins over A&M and Vandy as well as a good Oklahoma team. 

Notre Dame would be sitting at 10-2 with elite wins over … 

Um … 

Well … 

USC? Boise St? Navy? 

And one of their two losses being to A&M. 

I found it pretty interesting for the committee to have those two potential resumes on the table for one of those last 12 spots and how they could justify one over the other or how they would decide it, especially with two massive brand name teams to choose from. I say Texas should get the nod, but it’s pretty fun to see the poll dead split at 50/50. I think it’s a fun one. 

Now a variety of factors come into place of how many spots their actually are left, as well as where Texas fits in the SEC, because it could be hard to justify a 9-3 Texas over some 2 loss SEC teams, but I like these hypotheticals and I find Texas and Notre Dame to be very interesting especially considering the A&M common opponent part. 

If you do think Texas can steal a bid they are +500 to make the playoff via Draftkings 

Going to be a very interesting month down the stretch here and I can’t wait.
