Smart Parenting: Orlando Brown Jr's Dad Sat Him Down, Made Him Watch 'The Waterboy' To Teach Him Not To Be Soft On The Football Field Anymore
This right here is the sort of parenting that I'm logging in my brain. Remember, Orlando Brown Sr. was an offensive lineman for the Ravens and Browns, so he knows what it takes to make the NFL. You can't be playing soft when your dad is an NFL player. You can't be playing soft if your dad is competitive of any sort. So, there's only one answer. You sit your kid down, forget your own highlights, you put on the very realistic football movie, 'The Waterboy.'
It makes me happy knowing that I'm not the only parent in the world who has considered something like this. I've said it before, but I have two boys, oldest is now real into sports, playing competitive and starting to get into that life. He's still too young to be sitting him down and telling him he played soft, but we're a few years away. You gotta plan a little bit as a parent and now I gotta think what movies to make him watch to change his game. Pretty clear he'll be watching White Men Can't Jump at some point in his life to teach him how to run a perfect 2-man game. Tin Cup to teach him to club up at some point and then go be a hero. You get the point.
Hilarious to picture this giant human making another large human sit down and watch Bobby Boucher lay dudes out on the big screens in order to teach him not to be soft. You never know how to teach your kids. It's living day-to-day and trying to adapt to whatever the hell is going on. In this case, he cracked the code. Can't say it didn't work when Orlando Brown Jr. made the NFL too.
