Matt LaFleur Has No Balls And Needs To Give Up Play-Calling For The Packers

The Packers might be the most confusing 5-2-1 team you'll ever come across. After their convincing win against the Steelers on SNF I think most people felt they had no choice but to respect the Pack and consider them a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

Well, after Sunday's dud of all duds, losing as a 13.5 point home favorite to the Carolina Panthers, how can they be? I mean how does a game like that happen, especially when Bryce Young going 11 for 20 for 102 yards and an interception? How do you lose to a team that had give up 40+ to New England and Buffalo? If you're this Super Bowl contender you should be right on par with those teams. They scored 13 fucking points.

People want to point all the fingers at Jordan Love. And don't get me wrong, he was not good in this game. This interception into triple coverage on 1st down is rookie shit.

Everyone and their mother is talking about this play below. Don't get me wrong, it's ugly.

But when you zoom out you see on 4th down Love had nowhere to go with the ball. He bought as much time as he could before throwing up what he thought would be a jump ball to a 1 on 1 situation. Unfortunately Doubs sort of gave up on the play at the end and you almost had an even worse disaster with a pick 6.

Here's the bigger problem with the situation, and it's a microcosm of what's wrong with this Packers offense. On 3rd and 3 you're running this sideline pass out of trips. It was sniffed out immediately and lost 5 yards, setting up 4th and 8, down 7 with 11 minutes to go.

LaFleur, for whatever reason, decided to go for it instead of kicking the field goal with plenty of time to go. Keep in mind at the time they were without Tucker Kraft and Matthew Golden. Maybe this was MLF in his own head for kicking the field goal down eight a few years ago in the NFC title game against Tampa. Either way it was the wrong move that followed a terrible 3rd down play.

That 3rd down play call has happened too much. The LaFleur offense wants to run the football and throw gimmicky plays behind the LOS.

Makes even less sense when Love is one of the best down the field passers in the game.

LaFleur wants this team to be run dominant so badly, but refuses to give-in to the fact that they can't run block.

The numbers speak for themselves. Love is an elite thrower of the football. Do mistakes happen? Sure, but this team is at their best when he's taking 3 or 5 step drops and looking down the field.

Orlovsky and Gruden see it.

I think it's been a long time coming for LaFleur to give up play-calling. This offense needs a new voice. Do I expect a team that's 5-2-1 to make a drastic change like this? No, but they absolutely should. This Packers offense leaves far too much on the table every week. Whether they're starting slow like in the Pittsburgh and Arizona games, or playing with their food like the Bengals game. It's never a full 60 minute complete effort where they just run away with a game because the offense was relentless. When you look at the numbers under the hood you see it's a play-calling issue.

Listen, I don't know if this Packers team can overcome Tucker Kraft's season ending ACL injury. He was their number one option and really made them special. They have plenty of talent besides him, although LaFleur would rather feature Savion Williams than Matthew Golden so it might not even matter.

The 2025 Green Bay Packers are incredibly confusing and frustrating. I'm sure if a Jets fan looked at their record they'd scream at me for saying that, but they should look so much better than they do week in and week out. They seem to play up to their competition so I expect them to beat Philly on MNF and further complicate their outlook before laying an egg to the Giants at MetLife. Just give it up Matt and let me do this.
