Chad Powers Has Deservedly Been Renewed For A Second Season Thanks To Great Performances From Glen Powell And Perry Mattfeld
Daniel Delgado. Getty Images.I'll be honest, when the idea of the show 'Chad Powers' came about I didn't give it a chance. One trailer is all I needed to dismiss it and assume this would be a corny, waste of time. I didn't even know the season had started until midway through when Marty gave me a heads up that it was worth tuning into. Turns out the actual finished product ended up being a breath of fresh air.
Now is Chad Powers a show that will change how you view television? Will it go down as one of the best things you've ever watched? No, but if you go into it with tempered expectations, just looking to have yourself an enjoyable watch then I believe you'll come away pleasantly surprised, and that's really all it needed to be. With that we're now deservingly getting a season 2.
Who would have thought that Glen Powell doing 'Chad Powers' would be better for his career than 'The Running Man.' I saw The Running Man last week as part of a double feature with 'Eternity' and I was lucky to see The Running Man first because holy moly was that movie a big whole pile of nothing. Eternity on the other hand? FANTASTIC!
But back to the point of the blog, Chad Powers rocked. When it was over I was left wanting more. They were only given a six episode runway, but in that short of time they knocked it out of the park. It's everything it needed to be. Some football, solid humor, and tons of cursing. Anyone comparing this to Ted Lasso is lost. They're not trying to teach you some cliché life lessons here. A disabled kid in a wheelchair gets pushed to the floor by Chad in the first episode of the series. It doesn't take itself seriously in the slightest and I appreciate that.
It helped that Glen Powell played the part well (a character fit perfectly for him), but also that Perry Mattfeld stole the show as Coach Ricky. Given how season one ends, it was necessary to see how the shows evolves for a second season and possibly beyond, especially with those two characters.
A quick moment for Perry Mattfeld.

Kinda nuts that she had a major moment in her career premiere at the very same time her husband Mark Sanchez decided to get black out drunk in Indy and attack a truck driver. An incident that nearly killed the former Jets QB. Uhhh, timing my dude. Yeah all of that happened while the season was airing. Obviously there's never a good time to have your husband go off the deep end, but at least do it before or after the seasons airs!
Anyways, I cannot wait for the second season, which is definitely something I never saw myself saying a few months ago. Shout out stoolie Michael Waldron who wrote the series and did a fantastic job.
